Still to Come This Week
|
Monday, April 26 // 4–5:30 p.m. (ET)
Between the late 1950s and the end the 1970s, Latin American countries developed increasingly powerful interactions with the rest of the Global South. Scholars of contemporary Latin American history, however, have largely neglected this story, generating a collective amnesia on a crucial part of the region’s recent past. During his talk, Professor Vanni Pettinà will show how Latin America and The Global Cold War, fills this gap.
Tuesday, April 27 // 1–2:30 p.m. (ET)
In his Farewell Address of 1796, President George Washington admonished the young nation "to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world." Charles Kupchan's new book tells the story of the nation's long history of isolationist politics, its decline amid World War II and the Cold War, and its comeback in recent years.
Tuesday, April 27 // 3–4 p.m. (ET)
Dr. Amy Searight, Senior Associate for Asia with CSIS, will join the Wilson Center’s Kennan Institute and Asia Program for a conversation on Russia’s role in Southeast Asia and its future trajectory.
Wednesday, April 28 // 9–10 a.m. (ET)
How will the UK and its African partners together address shared challenges ranging from peace and security, immigration, and the ongoing global health crisis and vaccine rollouts?
Thursday, April 29 // 11 a.m.–12 p.m. (ET)
At this event, Zahid Hussain, an award-winning Pakistani journalist, will lay out his book's main findings. He will also discuss what the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan may portend for future relations between Washington and Islamabad.
Friday, April 30 // 12–12:30 p.m. (ET)
Join this informal conversation with Kelly Sims Gallagher, where we will ask her to draw from her experience as a Senior Policy Advisor during the Obama Administration and as director of the Climate Policy Lab at The Fletcher School at Tufts University to help us understand the forward trajectory (or rocky road?) for U.S.-China cooperation and competition in the realm of energy and carbon neutrality.
