With just one week remaining in the 2021 legislative session, I want to provide you a brief overview of the important thing that happened recently.

But first, a reminder that COVID-19 vaccines are available to a ll Floridians aged 16 and over . To find a vaccination site near you, please visit floridahealthcovid19.gov.

Within the legislature, there were many wins for Democrats! The Florida Senate announced that it would not be advancing SB 2012, its version of HB 1475, banning transgender girls from competing in girls' sports .

Last week, every Democrat in the House stood in solidarity with the trans community by opposing this hateful, divisive, and discriminatory legislation. And now, thanks to your advocacy, the bill is dead!

We also defeated HB 835, a Republican attempt to destroy Florida workers' rights to join a union and collectively bargain. President Biden said it best...

"Wall Street didn't build this country--the middle class did. And unions built the middle class."

This legislation was opposed by Florida's teachers, nurses, paramedics, and other frontline workers who selflessly serve our communities every day. I'm proud of the Democrats, labor unions, and advocates who came together to kill this bill.

I also presented my bill, HB 429, the "Purple Star Campuses Act" to the Florida House of Representatives, and it passed with a unanimous vote!

The average military child attends 8-10 schools during their k-12 career. Often, their parents deploy for months at a time, and many students struggle as a result.

This legislation provides stability by creating Purple Star Campuses designed to serve military families' unique needs.

Even more good news! Yours truly was nominated to be Vice Chairman of the Veteran's Caucus in the Florida Legislature. I'm excited to work with fellow caucus members, ensuring that Florida is a welcoming state for all military personnel.

As the 2021 legislative session nears conclusion, I want to thank you for your continued support throughout my first year in the Florida House of Representatives. Together, we've made significant progress, but, as always, there's much work to be done!
