Happy Monday! In this week’s agenda, Heritage President Kay C. James takes on the left for comparing election integrity reforms to “Jim Crow” laws. Mike Pence notes that the current border crisis has a solution that President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats refuse to consider. We also look at the rhetoric surrounding the Derek Chauvin trial, school choice bills around the country, the war on cancel culture, and much more.
Labeling Election Integrity Reforms as ‘Jim Crow’ Is
Insulting <[link removed]>
Race-baiting seems to be the order of the day, as a slew of leftist politicians toss around the “Jim Crow” label to attack common-sense election integrity laws. Heritage President Kay C. James, who grew up in the segregated South, hit back hard at these attacks. “Frankly, it’s insulting that politicians are trying to manipulate black folks like me into thinking that voting reforms that actually protect our right to vote are somehow racist. It’s insulting to be lied to, and—yes, I’m going to say it—it seems awfully racist to be thought of as so ignorant and gullible,” James writes in her latest commentary. Democrats in the White House and Congress Could End the Border Crisis Quickly. Instead, They’re Making it Worse <[link removed]>
President Joe Biden inherited the most secure southern border in American history, says former Vice President Mike Pence, and in just three short months he’s managed to unleash the worst border crisis in American history. It doesn’t have to stay this way, says Pence, who is a distinguished visiting fellow at Heritage. “Until left-wing politicians recognize the true nature of the border crisis and its roots in far-left policies, the crisis only will get worse,” Pence writes in his latest commentary. After the Chauvin Trial, Where Do We Go from Here? <[link removed]>
Former Minneapolis police officer Derek
Chauvin was judged and found guilty by a jury of his peers. But outside of our legal system, Americans witnessed dangerous and incendiary rhetoric by the likes Rep. Maxine Waters, who encouraged mob action if they didn’t get the verdict they wanted. “Mob violence and intimidation tactics—especially when egged on by public officials—are unacceptable and undermine the rule of law,” write Heritage legal fellow Zack Smith and John Malcolm, vice president of Heritage’s Institute for Constitutional Government.
