We’ve heard Chuy say it time and time again: our infrastructure policies are racist.

Our buses are breaking down and the Chicago L is falling apart. The legacy of post WWII “urban renewal” programs carved up or bulldozed Black and Latino communities to make way for highways and train tracks, segregating Chicagoland and keeping marginalized communities isolated from economic opportunity.

Communities of color are nearly two times more likely to rely on public transportation to get them where they need to go.

But get this: 21% of all public transportation vehicles in Illinois are out of date and in desperate need of replacement, and Illinoisans who take public transportation spend an extra 68% of their time commuting.

We need President Biden’s American Jobs Plan to modernize our public transportation and make it affordable and accessible for all. With this $85 million investment, we can finally modernize our public transit — from the CTA, to the Metra, and even the Pace Buses.
