The Washington Post recently reported that 85 million voters cast their ballot early or by absentee in the 2020 elections. Now a new study says conservative lawmakers are currently considering 361 voter suppression bills in 47 states, many of which would reduce the number of options to vote early or by absentee -- and in some states they’re already fast-tracking these bills. Earlier this month, the Texas House Elections Committee passed voter suppression bill HB6, “despite hours of public testimony in opposition from the groups most affected by the bill.” We can combat voter suppression bills in Texas and all across the country by passing the For the People Act. The democracy reforms in this bill would protect and expand voting rights in all 50 states.
