Dear John,
The Minnesota Senate moved the debate and vote on the Senate State Government Omnibus bill (SF 1831) to this Monday April 26; the bill includes a provision to ban RCV in local elections as well as other measures that make it harder to vote on election day.
If you haven’t already, we need you to weigh in and ask your senator to vote NO on the Senate Omnibus bill which includes a prohibition of Ranked Choice Voting for local offices, the repeal of RCV for cities who have already adopted it, and other measures in the bill that make it harder to vote on election day – like provisional balloting, elimination of vouching, and limitations on ballot boxes. We must let the Senate know that Minnesotans do not support these efforts to usurp local control and take our democracy backward.
We’ve made it easy for you; this link includes a sample message to send your senator and Majority Leader Paul Gazelka. Of course, it’s always better to put the message in your own words, and you can edit the message to make it your own. You can tune in to watch the floor session on Monday at 11am CT here.
This bill in the Minnesota Senate is part of a larger effort around the country to take our democracy backwards, and we appreciate your support in saying loudly and clearly that we will not allow that to happen in our state.
Thank you so much for your help and support,
Your FairVote MN Team |
