As the son of a single teenage mom and largely raised by his grandparents in rural Orangeburg, South Carolina, Jaime knows what it’s like for a family to have to choose between paying the electric bill and putting food on the table, and what it feels like to go to sleep in a home with no heat, because the power was shut off. But thanks to a good public school education, the love of his family, and the support of his community, Jaime had the opportunity to be the first in his family to graduate from college.

Since his days as a young aide to legendary South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn, the Democratic Party has been the cornerstone of Jaime's professional life. Jaime has been committed to the Democratic Party his entire career because he wants the opportunities he had to be available to the millions of American families enduring the worst health and economic crisis in a century. He knows we have to build this country back better, and there is only one party with that agenda: the Democratic Party.

In 2013, Jaime was elected the first African American chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, a position he held until 2017, when he was appointed by DNC Chair Tom Perez as an Associate Chair of the DNC. In 2020, Jaime ran for the U.S. Senate from South Carolina, building a national grassroots movement and setting a fundraising record for the most raised by a Senate candidate. He was elected DNC Chair in January 2021.

Jaime believes that when Democrats commit to year-round grassroots infrastructure and compete everywhere, we can win, and that victories in tough areas don’t come easily or quickly, but are the achievement of countless organizers, brilliant leaders, and investments in state parties — the frontlines of our fight. As DNC Chair, he's turning those beliefs into action.

We are so grateful to have someone who knows and understands the value of state parties at the helm of the DNC, and are incredibly excited to welcome him as our Keynote Speaker for the 12th Annual Virtual Wayne Morse Gala on Friday, June 4th, at 5:30pm.
