Hey team,
We just checked the clock -- and turns out, it’s STILL time to end the filibuster!
Universal background checks. A $15 minimum wage. Statehood for DC. Quality, affordable healthcare for all. Bold climate action. Historic reforms to strengthen our democracy and protect the rights of every American. We’re done waiting for the progress we deserve!
That's why Sean helped draft a letter from House Democrats urging Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to eliminate the Jim Crow filibuster and end Republican obstruction in the Senate:
We still need to collect 3,000 signatures to show that the American people are demanding change NOW, but we noticed your name was missing -- will you add your name today to call on Congress to end the filibuster for good?
Thanks,
Team Casten

Subject: Time to kill the filibuster
Folks,
It’s time to end the damned filibuster.
In my first term, our Democratic House majority passed hundreds of popular, bipartisan bills that were blocked by the efforts of Trump and Mitch McConnell.
In my second term, we now have the partners we need in the White House and the Senate. But critical House-passed legislation supported by the majority of Americans is still being held hostage in the Senate by the filibuster.
The filibuster is an anti-democratic tool whose primary function throughout our history has been to block the passage of civil rights legislation. With GOP voter suppression on the rise and crucial democracy reform bills like the Voting Rights Act and the For the People Act on the line, we can’t wait -- sign on to join me in calling on Congress to abolish the filibuster!
The 25 smallest states comprise less than 16% of the total US population -- but control 50% of the Senate.
Were it not for the fact that the Senate represents land rather than people as a consequence of our founders’ inability to reconcile representative democracy with the reality of slavery -- there would be Democratic supermajorities.
We need to stop pretending that a 50/50 division in a body of government designed to give great power to people whose views are at odds with the majority of the people they serve reflects a divided US electorate.
The American people gave us a historic mandate this election. But the filibuster stands in their way -- add your name to demand Congress eliminate the filibuster >>
Progress can’t wait,
Sean Casten
