TEXAS SPECIAL ELECTION: May 1, 2021

We’ve got less than one week until the first competitive special election
of 2021. This is the ONLY chance Democrats have to pick up a GOP House
seat this entire year.

John, our majority is held by a margin of just five-members.
With gerrymandering and GOP voter suppression, most election analysts
agree: Republicans are favored to win the House.

UNLESS Democrats can win suburban swing districts like Texas’ sixth
Congressional District. Joe Biden came just three points shy of winning
this district and we’ve got an incredible candidate running: Shawn
Lassiter is a Black, progressive working mom and former science teacher
with strong ties to the local area.

There’s two things you should know about special elections
John:

First: The candidate who wins the special election almost always goes on
to win in the general election next November. So if we win here, there is
a very good chance we’ll win here next November as well.

Second: Special elections are bellwethers of the midterms as a whole. You
can go back 80 years and see that, historically, the Party that wins
special elections goes on to do very well in the following elections
either later that year or the following year.

I know we said just two things, but a third: We can win! Donald Trump
carried this district by a hair and he isn’t on the ballot. Tens of
thousands of his supporters will be sitting this election out, so this is
our chance! With turnout and enthusiasm, we can flip this seat blue.
