Dear Friend,

Immigrants are a vital part of our essential workforce, the care infrastructure, our communities, and our families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this has become even more apparent as immigrants played and continue to play an integral role in our care infrastructure as caregivers and other essential workers.

Tell your members of Congress to support a pathway to citizenship for essential workers, Dreamers and TPS holders in the next economic recovery package. *When you click, you’ll automatically sign on if we already have your information.

What’s happening? Nearly 23 million immigrants have been putting their lives on the line in essential roles [1] that keep our children and families healthy, and keep our child care, health care system, long-term care, food supply chain, and our economy running. Currently, Congress is negotiating the next economic recovery package. Including a pathway to citizenship in the next package is an important step toward rebuilding our nation’s care infrastructure.

Sign on! We need bipartisan support, so please tell every member of Congress to pass fair immigration legislation that protects immigrant children and families! *When you click, you’ll automatically sign on if we already have your information.

Since the start of the pandemic, the decline in mothers’ labor force participation has been nearly double that of fathers’ and one out of four women who reported becoming unemployed during the pandemic said it was because of a lack of child care—twice the rate than men. [2] The U.S. child care industry has long relied on Black, Asian, and Latina women, including immigrants, with women of color making up 40% of its workforce. [3] Creating a pathway to citizenship for immigrant essential workers, Dreamers, and TPS holders is part of lifting up the child care supports and child care jobs that will enable many women to return to the workforce.

Members of Congress:

Immigrants have played a critical role throughout the pandemic and we know they will continue to play a critical role in our COVID recovery, particularly in our care infrastructure. We know nearly 23 million immigrants have been putting their lives on the line in essential roles that keep our children and families healthy, and keep our child care, health care system, long-term care, food supply chain, and our economy running.

Giving immigrant essential workers, Dreamers and TPS holders a pathway to citizenship in the upcoming economic recovery package is an important step toward rebuilding our nation’s care infrastructure. With mother’s stepping out of the labor force at a higher rate than fathers, it’s clear that to support their return to the workforce we must support child care and child care jobs.

Please support all efforts to protect immigrant families who have tirelessly worked to support our communities throughout the pandemic. Including a pathway to citizenship not only helps immigrant parents and children, but all families across the country who rely on our immigrant workforce.

Thank you,
