In his opening statement to the House Intelligence Committee's first public hearing on worldwide threats, California GOP Rep. Devin Nunes compared the supposed surveillance of Donald Trump during the 2016 election to the “FBI spying on Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1950s and 60s.”
You read that right. The GOP is comparing the FBI investigating Trump's team in 2016, a story based on lies, to the persecution of Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.
We're not surprised Nunes is using his position in the intelligence committee to rewrite history in favor of QAnon conspiracies about the “deep state.” This is the same Trump puppet who defended Trump when he was investigated for encouraging Russia to meddle in our Democracy -- a favor Trump returned by giving Nunes a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
We can't keep letting Nunes sell out our country for Trump's benefit, especially not when progressives like California Democrat Phil Arballo are ready to replace him.
Nunes is loyal to Trump, not his constituents -- so we're going to unseat him next year. But the only way we can defeat dark-money funded loyalists like Nunes is with the help of our powerful grassroots network.
