The mainstream has decided to fact-check my family’s story of “cotton to Congress in one lifetime.” That’s right, The Washington Post has been investigating my family’s history in the South and downplaying the struggles and racism they faced. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Friend,

The mainstream media has decided to fact-check my family’s story of “cotton to Congress in one lifetime.”

That’s right, The Washington Post has been investigating my family’s history in the South and downplaying the struggles and racism they faced.

It’s shameful. Plain and simple.

I am used to being attacked for daring to think differently, for daring to be a proud black conservative, and for daring to publicly stand up for what I believe.

But this latest attack from the mainstream media represents a new low — even for them.

We should never allow this type of casual racism to go unanswered — I hope you agree we can do better.

Let me explain. My family’s journey is a complicated one, records weren’t kept, and family history was passed down from generation to generation through storytelling.

But no amount of “fact-checking” or attacks from the mainstream media will EVER take away from the struggles that my family overcame.

My grandfather grew up a poor South Carolina cotton farmer in the Great Depression. Yet he lived long enough to see his grandson become the first African American elected to both the U.S. House and Senate.

He lived long enough to see his wildest dreams become a reality. From cotton to Congress in one lifetime!

We have to call out this casual racism against black Republicans when we see it. It’s shameful and we cannot allow it to go unnoticed.

I wake up every single day working to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities that I did to succeed.

Every time I see a nasty insult from the Left or an unjust “fact-check,” I am comforted knowing that there are patriots like you, friend, who have my back.

Sadly, this won’t be the last time we face insults, casual racism, or attacks from the Left. But with your help we can continue spreading the positive message of conservatism. ([link removed] )
