Friend,

This past week, with the celebration of Earth Day, we told you about our efforts to make every day Earth Day. In order to do this, we’re focused on passing bold legislation like the Climate Corporate Accountability Act (SB 260), our GREENMAP redistricting program for building regional power and fair representative elections, and federal advocacy around President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.

Even though California’s global reputation for climate leadership should make these priorities align with those of our elected leaders, the reality is California is falling behind the nation and the world in our climate goals. The lack of climate action last year and the influence of the fossil fuel industry in our politics resulted in our state earning just a 'C' in CLCV’s most recent Environmental Scorecard.

This week, we asked you to take action to show your support for solving the climate crisis. Now we need your financial support so we have the resources to combat corporate interests and advocate for climate action legislation in California.

Scientists have warned us that we only have until 2030 to mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis. With companies becoming more conscious of their emissions impacts and the national dialogue on the climate crisis drastically changing from the previous administration, one would think we are in a comfortable position to avoid this future. Unfortunately, that’s not the case in California, where 70% of legislators still take direct contribution from oil companies.

We can’t become complacent this year. We must continue the drumbeat and take the necessary steps to protect our planet and everyone who lives on it.

Help us have the resources to get California leaders back on track with our climate goals. We need your financial support to pass bold climate legislation, hold our leaders accountable to their communities, and promote transformational federal legislation. Please consider a gift of $25.

Let’s envision a future where we have can celebrate our accomplishments on Earth Day, rather than highlight where we’re falling behind. Please join us as we fight for this future.

In solidarity,

Mike Young
Political & Organizing Director

We believe that radical change is necessary and only by transforming our political system will we create the opportunity to take bold action on climate change. We elect and cultivate environmental champions, turn election victories into policy wins, hold our lawmakers accountable, and build political power for change. We inspire hope and action and fight for equity and justice for all Californians. We are in the business of changing what’s possible.
