Congressman Robert B. Aderholt, Representing Alabama's 4th
District

Welcome to my new and improved newsletter! As you can see the format
has changed a bit, and I hope that makes reading and interacting
easier for you. And while there are a lot of changes here, rest assured
that I will still give you the same kind of updates from Washington,
D.C. and the 4th Congressional District that I normally do.

*The Hyde
Amendment: Stopping Tax Dollars from Paying for Abortions*

For the
past 45 years [link 1], whenever Congress has passed a spending bill
the Hyde Amendment has been included. What Hyde does is simply this:
it protects federal tax dollars from funding abortion. That is it. It
doesn't act as a policy stance on abortion, and it does not make
abortion illegal. Rather, it takes a very controversial issue out of serious
spending negotiations where taxpayer dollars are at stake. That's the
whole reason the Hyde Amendment was created in the first place.
Abortion is a divisive issue, and by protecting tax money from directly
funding it, Congress leaves this matter for legislative debate.

The
Hyde Amendment has never been contorversial. Every Congress and
Administration has supported Hyde for 45 years no matter what party was in
charge. But now, that has changed. House Democrats have removed the Hyde
Amendment from our spending bills and Senate Democrats are poised to
do the same. That's why I joined many of my colleagues in sending a
letter to President Biden urging him to publicly support the Hyde
Amendment, something he has done his ENTIRE career and as recently as
2019.

*President Biden's First 100
Days of Far Left Policies*

We have now passed the 100 day mark in
President Biden's Administration, and unfortunately the message of unity
he professed during his inauguration has been nothing other than an
empty promise. Last month, I wrote about the President's first 50 [link
2] days in office [link 3], and how he could turn the tide in his next
50 days by reaching across the aisle. Sadly, he did not take my
advice.

President Biden's first 100 days have resulted in: a plan to
increase taxes, a record number of executive orders, a crisis at our
Southern border, a court packing initiative, an infrastructure plan that
has only 6% to do with infrastructure, and pro-choice political
appointments. None of these live up to the standard of "unity". And while
President Biden will tout his first 100 days during his Joint Session
address next Wednesday, we already know they have been nothing but
divisive.

During the campaign, Biden said he would be a President for
everyone, not just Democrats. And not just for those who voted for
him.
Can anyone name one act he has taken as President to signal that he
is a President for Republicans, conservatives or those who did not vote
for him?
I think we see that not only have his actions been service
to Democrats solely, but more specifically, to those in the far left
of his party.

*D.C. Statehood Runs Counter to Founders'
Intent*

When the Founding Fathers created our federal government, they
purposefully designated an area of land that was separate from the states and
would not have the same voting power as the states. They did this in
order to avoid blatant corruption and undue influence. This was the
problem of our two previous capitals being in the states of New York and
Philadelphia.

Our Founders were smart, and they knew that a
"state" that had the federal government within its borders was a recipe for
disaster. Inevitably, they believed, the Representatives and Senators
who voted and legislated on behalf of government employees would
encourage corruption, centralize power, and create an unequal balance of
power among the states.

It's clear that D.C. statehood is an awful
proposal [link 4] that goes against the founding of our nation, yet
House Democrats are championing it. They want to make D.C. a state just
so they can get two additional Democratic Senators. It is a power grab
that will have massive consequences.

Last year when House
Democrats pushed D.C. statehood through the House, I put up a poll on Facebook
asking if you supported or opposed this notion. A whopping 85%
opposed D.C. statehood, and needless to say it is for good reason.

*Remembering April 27, 2011*

Finally, it's hard
to believe that it has now been ten years since the tornado outbreak
of April 27, 2011.
On that day 245 Alabamians lost their lives.
The
vast majority of those deaths took place in the 4th Congressional
District.
Below is a video we created back on the 5th Anniversary that
lists the names of those who passed away in the 4th District.
I hope
you will take some time to watch.
When you see the names, the ages, and
just the large number of them, it really brings home how devastating
that day was. We will never forget that day in our state's history or
those we lost.
