Dear supporter,
The Christian Institute has been helping Stirling Free Church in its legal action for religious discrimination against The Robertson Trust. The case has been heard at Glasgow’s Sheriff Court this week.
The church was renting Trust premises for its Sunday services. It had its contract terminated, after chairwoman Shonaig Macpherson reportedly objected because “they don’t believe in same-sex marriage”. The Trust then claimed it had a policy of not renting for activities promoting religion. A senior member of staff later admitted that no such policy existed.
We are also helping the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association with their own case against the Trust. They too had their contract for room hire terminated.
The hearing had been expected to conclude yesterday, but it has been extended. It should resume again in the next few months.
Please continue to pray for peace for all those involved and for a just outcome. If you would like to make a donation to help with the legal costs for this case and others like it, you can do so here.
Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly Deputy Director (Staff and Communications) The Christian Institute
