Friend,
I want to discuss some very dangerous trends with you that threaten the
entire progressive movement.
First, since Donald Trump left office, donations to progressive
organizations and media outlets have fallen off sharply—including for
Common Dreams.
Second, fewer people are paying attention to news and politics in
general, with web traffic and TV news ratings down by double
digits—including for Common Dreams.
Third, the information landscape remains under assault as high-quality,
independent journalism is squeezed by the profit- and power-seeking
dominance of Big Tech giants like Facebook.
And finally, while some progressives may be less engaged and active,
right-wing forces are on the march: passing the largest attacks on
voting rights since Jim Crow; pushing anti-protest laws to silence
dissent, and waging new culture-war with vicious attacks on trans youth
and continuing their odious assault on reproductive freedoms.
If any progressives assume that everything is fine now that Trump is
gone, they are sorely mistaken.
We've seen this pattern play out before. In 2010, conservatives were
fired up, progressives let down their guard, and a corporate-backed Tea
Party helped sweep reactionary and fascist forces into power. We can't
let that happen again.
Common Dreams relies on donations from our readers to provide the news
in a way that holds power to account, inspires action, and sparks
progressive change. We're counting on you to meet our Spring Campaign
goal and reverse these dangerous trends that threaten everything we care
about.
Will you donate to Common Dreams right now and help keep progressive
media alive?
