Message From The Executive Board:

Comrades,

This year's DSA Convention, with the theme "From the Ashes of the Old," will be an important event for all DSA members to keep an eye on, as our political goals and the composition of our highest decision-making body will be decided there. Delegates to represent the Sacramento chapter will be elected in a process announced at our last General Body Meeting. That presentation is available here.

Delegate candidates must fill out this Self-Nomination form:

These responses will help members get a sense of who they are electing to represent them at the national level. After submitting this form, delegates are encouraged to present at the May GMM.

Since the deadline for us to hold our election is June 17 we will be holding the following schedule:

  • Presentations from delegate candidate will be scheduled for the General Membership Meeting on Saturday, May 15
  • Our election will occur on Saturday, June 12, at a specially scheduled General Membership meeting, using Single Transferable Vote through the nationally provided OpaVote system.
  • Results of the election will be released on the deadline of June 17th and submitted to national before the 23rd.

With this process, we will begin our work electing a delegation to represent Sacramento at the national level. Meanwhile, especially important to local work this week is our event Monday, April 26th, the Die-In at the traffic circle in front of the State Capitol at 5:30 pm as part of our statewide campaign to pass single payer health care in California. Hope to see you all there!

In Solidarity,

Sacramento DSA E-Board

TAKE OUR ORGANIZING SURVEY

Help us get to know our membership better by filling out this survey; this will allow us to get members in touch with campaigns and projects they are interested in, as well as find out what the priorities of members are.

Volunteer Now to Pass the PRO Act

Image

From now until May Day (Biden's 100th day in office), DSA, through our national Green

New Deal campaign and Democratic Socialist Labor Commission (DSLC) is joining the national campaign to pass the PRO (Protect the Right to Organize) Act.

Just this week a video leaked of Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema saying she wants to listen to “business leaders” on the PRO Act. Now it’s time for all of us to escalate and make the ruling class listen to workersIt’s mayday for the PRO Act.

Over 50 DSA chapters are planning coordinated actions to escalate the pressure on May Day—a historic day for international workers to celebrate the power of organized labor.  On Saturday's call, we'll hear about the work of DSA chapters as they prep for May Day.

And we'll talk about how, beyond May Day, we're going to keep building power together to pass the PRO Act! How does 1 million calls sound?

Demand Congress champion the PRO ACT and pass it by any means necessary. Join us this Saturday, April 24 at 12pm for updates on the fight to win the PRO Act.

Die-in at Capitol for Single Payer

DSA chapters across the state are campaigning for AB 1400, also known as CalCare, which would establish universal single-payer health insurance for Californians. We’ve been calling and canvassing constituents to get them to pressure their representatives into co-sponsoring the bill, but we need to make sure Governor Newsom is feeling the heat too. That’s why Sacramento DSA is planning a Die-in at the capitol on April 26th at 5:30 PM to pressure Newsom into requesting a waiver from the Biden administration which would secure partial funding for the system.

We need your help to make this event a success! Join us Thursdays at 5:30 for our event planning meeting. Email Johnny Lucas at [email protected] for more information.

RSVP for Die-in here:

While you’re at it, sign this open letter to Sacramento City Council urging them to pass a resolution in support of CalCare.

Mutual Aid Opportunities This Week

Upcoming National DSA Events & Programs

These events are hosted by National DSA or chapters outside Sacramento. As with all DSA events, they are free and open to anyone!

Pre-Convention Conferences

With the 2021 national convention coming soon, DSA is hosting national pre-convention conferences to give potential delegates and other members an idea of what to expect at the convention, to meet comrades across the country, and to get the opportunity to engage in political discussion.

This year’s pre-convention conferences we will be discussing the platform, talking about what it means to be a delegate, and preparing for this year’s National Convention.

The five pre-convention conferences will be open to any member and run from May 15th to June 15. We strongly encourage those who are planning on or considering being a convention delegate to register for them.

What We're Reading (Or Viewing, Or Listening To...)

This is a space where we link to interesting articles, videos, podcasts -- whatever -- that our members have shared with each other on our chapter Slack. We are re-sharing them here in case others are interested; they do not necessarily represent “official” positions or endorsements of DSA.
