Hi John,
Do you know Lina Hidalgo? She's a Run for Something alum, Judge of Harris County, Texas (in Texas, that's an executive role not a judicial one), and one of the most outstanding and proven local leaders in the nation.
Before the presidential election, in the face of the coronavirus threatening Texans' ability to safely and freely cast their ballot, Lina took decisive action to protect and empower voters to make their voices heard. In 2016, Harris County spent about $4 million to administer elections -- after Lina took office,
the county increased the election budget to $31 million.
Harris County invested in 24-hour early voting, drive-through voting, and additional polling places -- the result? Turnout increased a whopping 7.5 points, from 58.7% to 66.2%.
But this voter empowerment may be short-lived: State Republican legislators are considering anti-voter laws that will dismantle Lina's work to protect Texas voters' freedom to pick their elected leaders.
Every single Republican who thinks they can silence voters' voices needs to be challenged, and we're dedicated to finding pro-voter progressives like Lina to do just that.
If you can, chip in $5 to continue recruiting, training, supporting, and electing diverse young progressives to state and local office who will protect our right and freedom to vote.

The bills in Texas aim to deny the right to vote by reducing early voting hours, restricting the number of voting locations, prohibiting drive-thru voting (which 127,000 folks around Houston used last year), and would even make it illegal for local elected officials to send applications to Texans to apply to vote by mail.
It goes against everything we value -- democracy
cannot work if it doesn't include all of us. But Texas Republicans, and hundreds of other Republicans like them across the country, are determined to deny voters' our voice in a shameless power grab.
Now we need to get to work to defeat them. State and local office can drive or stifle progress in America -- so let's make sure diverse, young progressives hold that power. Can you chip in $5 to help?
Thanks,
