Dear john,
 
This week, I was delighted to have met with the International Trade Secretary Liz Truss and the Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng to talk about businesses and exporters in our constituency. 
 
Did you know that Filton and Bradley Stoke has the 46th highest number of export intensive jobs of all constituencies in the UK? 18,715 people in sectors from aerospace to financial services and office support are in these nationally export intensive roles. That puts us in the top 7% of constituencies and shows how important free trade and strong local and international businesses are to our economy. 
 
Since Brexit, Liz has been working hard to secure ambitious free trade deals across the world with countries like Japan, Australia and the United States. I wanted to make sure she knew about our world-beating industries and I can't wait to welcome her to our area to see the brilliant export intensive work that goes on here. She was hugely enthusiastic about the constituency and we had a very consructive discussion.

Research and development is at the heart of our aerospace industry in Filton. We've seen some fantastic government investments, including £27 million in the H2GEAR Project at GKN Aerospace to develop hydrogen propulsion systems for aircraft, part of the Government's push to net zero.

I spoke to Kwasi to emphasise how important it is that the Government invests in R&D to secure jobs and apprenticeships, ensuring a bright future for everyone in this amazing sector. He was very positive about prospects for more funding in future and I look forward to welcoming him to our area.

As restrictions eased on 12th April, I, like many of you, was finally able to get a haircut! I hope you have all enjoyed the chance to get out and see family and friends safely in the open air. With sunny weather forecast for the weekend ahead it should be a great time to go out and meet others in pubs and parks. We're not too far away from the next step of the roadmap, when indoor socialising will be allowed, so please keep sticking to the rules so we can keep moving forward safely.

This afternoon I visited The Wild Place and Pilning Wetlands.
 
On April 12th, The Wild Place, part of Bristol Zoological Society, reopened to visitors. I'm very grateful to the CEO, Justin, for showing me the measures that are in place to keep visitors safe and get the facility re-opened to the public. I was really pleased hear that they have been busy since reopening to visitors on 12 April.
 
In 2022, the Bristol Zoo Gardens in Clifton will close and the entire Zoo will move to the Wild Place. We will soon host one of the best Zoos in the country in our area and I'm excited to see the site grow and thrive. We talked about their plans to to secure funding, and the supporting infrastructure needed for growth in the future.
 
Pilning Wetlands is a former rifle range in the Severn Estuary, which is now a nature reserve for birds. The total number of species seen there is 280, with 185 recorded in the most prolific year.
 
I met with James Parry, son of the owner Richard Parry. It's a beautiful site with stunning wildlife and it is great to see re-use of former military land in a way that is so beneficial to our natural environment and the wider community.

I have been actively involved regarding the issue of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) in Filton.
 
I have written and spoken with local Councillors to discuss what actions they are taking to resolve complaints about waste collection and parking, and have written to the Housing Minister asking whether any reforms to planning legislation are in the pipeline.
I also met recently with residents on Northville Road and I will be writing further to the Minister on their behalf.
 
Building more homes is the answer to the housing crisis in this country, and I will continue to push the Government on its housing manifesto commitments.   [ ]( # )
