The Washington Post: “House Democrats pass D.C. statehood — launching bill into uncharted territory”
John -- yesterday, the House passed my D.C. statehood bill!
This is only the second time in U.S. history that any chamber of Congress has passed D.C. statehood. And for the first time ever, it heads to the Senate with unprecedented support.
We’re one step closer to making D.C. our nation’s 51st state and granting full voting representation to the 700,000 Americans who call our nation’s capital home. And we’re one step closer to correcting a longstanding injustice and honoring the democratic values on which our country was founded.

I have an important update: Markup for my bill to make Washington, D.C. our country’s 51st state is happening today and the House is scheduled to bring it up for a vote next week.
This isn’t a partisan issue and it’s not even a D.C. issue -- it’s an American issue and an issue of basic fairness.
The more than 700,000 Americans who call D.C. home work and have built families in our great country just like the rest of us, and they deserve a full voice in our democracy.
“No taxation without representation” is more than just a slogan on D.C. license plates. With today’s markup, we’re one step closer to correcting a longstanding injustice and fulfilling the promise our Founding Fathers envisioned for our country.
Thank you for your support,
TC
