Have you heard the news about Melanie Stansbury? This former GiveGreen state House champion is running for the open seat vacated by Deb Halaand, who was confirmed as the Interior Secretary. This June 1st special election will be one of the first, and highly watched, special elections of the Biden administration.
While New Mexico’s first Congressional district has been a Democratic held seat for the past several years, the last time NM-01 had a special election, the seat was won by a Republican, and we know special election electorates trend more conservative.
Can you chip in $25 to help elect a new champion to the U.S. House? ([link removed] )
[link removed] Through her career, Stansbury has been an environmental policy expert and conservation champion. She has spent her life working on community development and natural resource issues, including working with state, local, tribal, and non-profit organizations. As a state representative, Stansbury has established herself as the leading voice in New Mexico water policy, and sponsored HB 233 (signed in to law in March 2020) to modernize New Mexico's electric grid to be more efficient and responsive as more renewable energy resources come online.
This is a must win race - both to preserve our small majority in the U.S. House, as well as strengthen our margins going into redistricting. It will take significant investment to drive up turnout and get our message out.
