Friend,

The drug war has taken root in critical systems we depend on and has doled out punishments that go far beyond arrests and incarceration. It has invaded the child welfare system and is tearing families apart: [link removed]

Please register to join us for Child Welfare, the Drug War, and Family Separation, a virtual discussion on April 28 from 4:30-6pm ET.

We are thrilled to co-host this webinar with Movement for Family Power. It will bring together advocates, researchers, and directly impacted people to explore the ways in which the drug war has infiltrated the child welfare system and to generate solutions for reform.

Drug war hysteria has led to disastrous policies that demonize parents — targeting primarily Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people — testing them for drugs often without consent, relentlessly investigating them, and routinely removing their children without any reason other than supposed drug use.

Even when a parent uses drugs, there’s no evidence connecting drug use alone to someone’s capacity to care for children. Research also shows that children have the best outcomes when they remain with their parents, yet our child welfare system chooses to punish rather than provide support.

Our webinar will explore these issues and more so please register to attend on April 28: [link removed]
