John,
I have been fighting for change in our country for 25 years – longer than my son was allowed to walk this earth. And every day since my youngest son, George C. Scott, was shot and killed I have woken up to the sound of the scream that my grandson let out when I had to tell him his father was gone.
It’s what has kept me fighting for so many years. Through the loss of more of my family to gun violence and through deadly inaction by our lawmakers. Despite hardships, I remain steadfast in my belief that if we work together we will stop the killing and start the healing. And now, after years of merely incremental change, we have come to a moment where we are on the precipice of real, tangible action that will save lives.
Today, I am thrilled and humbled to share that I will be receiving the Grassroots Action Award at the Brady Action Awards on April 29th. Brady has been my partner and support through this fight for years, and I am honored to serve as the President of Brady California. I cannot wait to watch as Brady recognizes so many gun violence champions, and I hope that you will join me next week as we recommit ourselves to saving lives.

I look forward to celebrating the progress we have made in this movement next Thursday, and I know that when you join us you will see how much more life-saving action there is left to take. I know intimately that our fight does not last for one night or even one year, but rather a lifetime – and the only way that we can sustain this movement is if we act as a united front.
Join us on Thursday, April 29th to celebrate gun violence prevention champions and prepare to finally stop the killing and save lives.
