Friend — Happy Earth Day! Climate change is affecting everyone in the world. Some understand it as just warmer weather, and others see the true detriment, like the destruction left behind after Hurricane Sandy. Yet, while communities of color and low-income communities have contributed the least to environmental pollution and the climate crisis, they are disproportionately affected by climate change impacts. This injustice needs to be addressed, which is why I put forth a piece of legislation entitled The Climate Justice Act. This bill will prioritize and amplify climate justice at the federal level by creating a Climate Justice Working Group to guide our nation’s equitable transition to a zero-emission economy. Team, will you sign on now and support climate change solutions?
Not only would this legislation be a huge step in helping create climate justice, we know it will work. This legislation was modeled off the New York State landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which has seen great success. As a representative it’s important to listen to constituents and be their voice in Congress. We’re scaling up our solutions designed and developed in New York, and I could not be more proud.
Thanks, — Yvette
