Every year, our government gives billions of dollars in tax breaks, incentives, and other subsidies to fossil fuel companies — basically spending our tax dollars on forms of energy that are driving a catastrophic climate crisis. Eliminating those subsidies and tax breaks would have a big impact, and President Biden took a big first step by signing an executive order directing federal agencies to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels. But the majority of money going to the fossil fuel industry is through subsidies which only Congress can eliminate. That fight started today with a hearing chaired by Ro Khanna in the House Oversight Environmental Subcommittee, the first step in ending fossil fuel subsidies in Congress.
John, big oil will spend whatever they need to spend to keep ending oil subsidies out of the American Jobs Plan. Can we count on you to pitch in to help us fight back by organizing to end fossil fuel subsidies?

The bottom line is this: there is no political constituency for giving our tax dollars to big oil companies whose greedy profit-seeking is a threat to life itself. That’s why Our Revolution joined with Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, and other groups to hold a massive online rally yesterday to show grassroots support to end fossil fuel subsidies. If our government actually responded to popular opinion instead of whoever can give the largest donations, ending fossil fuel subsidies would be bipartisan and uncontroversial. But, since big oil's money speaks so loudly inside the halls of Congress, we need to invest in organizing to fight back. We must scale up our work to carry out the only current campaign that focuses directly on cutting big oil subsidies, and we can’t do it without your support.
Pitch in here to make sure we have what it takes to stop sending our tax dollars to America's worst polluters.
In solidarity, The whole team at Our Revolution
