Hi John,
These have been a challenging few months for our communities. So today, I'm grateful to reach out to you with some good news: We have successfully passed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act in the Senate!
Violent attacks against the AAPI community have increased by almost 150% in the past year, and I believe this bill is a positive first step to address the hate crimes and unspeakable tragedies the AAPI community has had to endure.
I know our AAPI community is resilient, John. As the pandemic hit, our businesses struggled, our families were separated, and our worries grew. But through it all, we persevered. We kept the lights on. We helped our neighbors. And in the face of tragedy, we comforted one another.
I've been inspired by what we've been able to accomplish together, and I'm reassured that we will continue creating a better, more welcoming country for our children and our families.
That's why I know that now more than ever, we need change in Washington. We deserve leaders who listen. We deserve leaders who care about us, and who will use their positions of power to lift up those who've been terrorized for years, not tear them down.
I want to bring more of our resilience to the halls of Congress, because we've still got a lot of work to do if we're going to make this a country every American can feel safe in. That's our goal at ASPIRE, replacing members of Congress who brush us off with bold, AAPI leaders who put us first.
Passing the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act is just the first of many victories. If you're able to, I'm humbly asking you to donate $10 or anything you can to help us continue our work and create a government you can rely on. You can donate here: [link removed]
I'm grateful to have you on this team. Thank you for supporting us through our challenges and celebrating our victories.
Best,
Grace
