Friend,
The Trump administration's disregard for science set us back on several fronts. It undermined our ability to rein in climate change, our response to COVID-19, and so much more.
But science is back -- especially at the EPA. Under the leadership of Michael Regan, the EPA is now officially investigating the Trump administration's political interference in science.
Add your name next to mine to urge Michael Regan and other Biden administration officials to keep bringing science back to our government so that we can tackle issues like the climate crisis.
As you may recall, Trump's first EPA head, Scott Pruitt, directed the removal of climate change information from the agency's website. He also fired scientists from the agency and replaced them with officials from the very industries the EPA is supposed to regulate.
After Pruitt resigned, Andrew Wheeler, a former coal industry lobbyist, took over at the EPA. Wheeler continued the path of destruction, ignoring and suppressing scientific research and recommendations around drinking water, carbon emissions, and more.
Now, while the EPA investigates the Trump administration's attacks, the Biden administration is working to ensure that experienced scientists (and their research) are welcomed back to the government. We're getting science back where it belongs: to defend our environment, protect our health, and drive smart, data-driven policy approaches to the many challenges we face.
Together, we can and will bring science back to the forefront of our government. Add your name if you're with me.
Thank you,
Maria Cantwell
