The Trump administration's gag rule ripped affordable health care access away from patients with low incomes — the very patients who need access the most, especially during a global pandemic.
The Title X program is the only federal program dedicated to ensuring affordable access to sexual and reproductive health care services, like birth control, life‑saving preventive screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more, to people with low incomes and people without insurance.
Urge the Biden‑Harris administration to repeal the Title X gag rule and ensure everyone has access to reproductive health care. There's so much work to be done to ensure the Title X program truly meets the needs of all people, but lifting the gag rule will be a huge step toward equitable health care access for all.
Trump's gag rule cut off Title X funding to any health provider that tells patients how they can safely and legally access abortion. This, of course, was a direct attack on abortion providers like Planned Parenthood — and ultimately it forced Planned Parenthood health centers out of Title X. Nearly overnight, the program lost HALF of its capacity to serve patients.
That gag rule is still in effect in 49 states. Every day that it remains, people are blocked from receiving care through the Title X program from their preferred provider or are forced to go without the care they need entirely. That is an outrage — everyone has a right to health care, regardless of income level, race, or ZIP code.
