Today, I’m making history by chairing the first-ever hearing in the U.S.
about fossil fuel subsidies alongside climate activist Greta Thunberg. We
have one major goal for today: eliminating $15 billion in taxpayer-funded
subsidies for the fossil fuel industry.

Every year, the federal government supports the production of fossil fuels
through tax breaks or other financial incentives that are set and managed
by Congress. This is thanks in large part to Big Oil lobbyists that
influence the Administration and Congress to prop up their industry.

If we stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, we can protect our planet
AND invest in our economy. But we need support from activists like you to
help protect our planet.

At a time when all the experts are telling us that we don’t have much time
to act, the last thing we should be doing is tipping the scales away from
a green energy future.

That’s why today, on Earth Day, I’m working with activists like Greta
Thunberg and scientists from the most esteemed institutions in the world
to focus on ending fossil fuel subsidies. But we need to build momentum in
Congress to support ending these massive subsidies.
