John, the primaries for Virginia’s gubernatorial and House of Delegate races are just around the corner. As the race continues to gear up, it becomes even more important for us to protect the gains made in last November’s election and continue to build our progress.
With that said, we’ve prepared our 2021 Virginia State Race memo, which includes very important key points to remember as we fight to keep Virginia
blue!

MEMORANDUM | 2021 VIRGINIA STATE RACE

History shows when Democrats win the White House, we lose in Virginia. Securing a win this year would mark a third consecutive victory for Democrats, a feat that has not been accomplished since 1980, and would help us maintain our progress going into the midterm elections.

The Republican candidates gaining traction are radical Trump loyalists like Amanda Chase. Chase and other contenders continue to tout debunked conspiracy theories about election fraud. Electing someone like her could jeopardize ballot access, with the introduction to laws that attempt to suppress minority voters.

The people elected in 2021 will be tasked with hand redrawing electoral district maps. Republican gains could make drawing fair maps that don’t weaken Black voices that much harder.
All of the progress that we’ve made thus far is at stake. Electing a Democratic governor and retaining control of the Virginia state legislature are critical components in maintaining our strides and moving our country forward. That’s why we have boots on the ground, working every day to register more and more Virginia voters and ensure that our democracy is safe.
