Dear John,

Today only: in honor of Earth Day, a generous donor has offered to match all donations to OLCV. Give today and double your gift’s impact>>

For over 50 years, Earth Day has been a day for people around the world to come together to advocate for a healthier, more liveable future for our planet. This year’s Earth Day comes at a time when our attention is on the injustices, racism, pain, and trauma endured by Black People in our country. OLCV exists to protect our environment and everyone in it — but this work means nothing if Black communities are not safe in the very environment we’re fighting for. No one should fear persecution or death because of the color of their skin.

We are over halfway through the 2021 legislative session, and this year our top priority is passing the Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity Package — a trio of three climate justice bills being led by frontline climate and environmental justice groups statewide, including the Oregon Just Transition Alliance. The bills are:

  • 100% Clean Energy for All (HB 2021) — Oregon communities, especially environmental justice communities (rural and low-income, Black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color, and Tribal Nations) need more opportunities. Passing this bill would put us on the path to 100% clean energy by 2040 at the latest while creating good paying jobs with strong labor standards for new projects, including prevailing wage and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Energy Affordability — During the pandemic, Oregonians are struggling to make ends meet while spending more time at home. HB 2475 would decrease utility cost burden for families who are struggling by establishing a Low-Income Utility Rate Class, and ensure energy affordability as we shift to renewable energy sources.
  • Healthy Homes — Over half of Oregonians live in housing built before 1978, which is more likely to be energy inefficient and in need of repairs, with low income families at the highest risk. HB 2842 would support home upgrades and weatherization to help improve the health and safety of families across Oregon, especially those who are most at-risk.

We need your help to get these climate justice bills across the finish line. Will you make a special Earth Day donation to OLCV today and help us pass the Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity Package? Today only, a generous donor has offered to match all gifts to OLCV so your gift will have TWICE the impact.
