Friend,
This is bigger than the Paris Climate Agreement.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won with the most votes in history with the most ambitious climate platform ever. And this Earth Day, we're already seeing their major commitments to climate action come to life as President Biden brings together the world's leaders to increase global ambition to address this crisis.
The President just committed the United States to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 — this is huge! This goal is nearly double what the United States had committed to when the Obama administration first signed onto the Paris Climate Agreement. And it signals to our communities, Congress, and international leaders that we are here to lead on climate action.
This historic progress is only possible because YOU are a part of this movement, and this Earth Day, we need you to help keep up the momentum as world leaders gather to discuss the climate crisis. Fossil fuel companies are already lobbying hard against climate action — so we need the world to know that the will of the people is behind climate and environmental justice action in order to keep this progress going.
Friend, will you help keep the momentum going and sign your name to show the world that you're all in for international climate action? EARTH DAY GOAL: 5,000 SIGNATURES »
You might be wondering how exactly the U.S. is going to meet these ambitious climate goals. The Biden-Harris administration launched in its first days in office an ambitious government-wide approach to tackle climate change and released a key part of their blueprint: The American Jobs Plan.
The American Jobs Plan proposes historic investments in a green economic recovery that will create millions of new good-paying jobs, build an economy powered by clean energy, and address environmental racism. This is the type of plan we want to see all countries at the Climate Summit this week aspire to.
For this plan to become reality, Congress needs to act — but votes throughout the process will be extremely close, and fossil fuel lobbyists are already pressuring lawmakers.
But the stakes are too high — our communities, especially communities of color, are suffering from pollution and the climate crisis, now. So we must show our support for global climate action, starting here at home.
With a bold investment from Congress and the Biden-Harris administration, we can:
-
Invest in clean energy deployment and expand domestic manufacturing to achieve 100% clean power and cars by 2035, creating new good-paying union jobs here in the U.S.
- Ensure under the Justice40 commitment that 40% of all investment benefits are directed to frontline communities and communities of color, so that our nation's recovery rebuilds a more equitable society.
- Transform transportation with electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, including a $25 billion in grants for electric school buses, so that our children, especially in low-income communities and communities of color, have the basic right to breathe healthy, clean air.
- Provide clean, safe, affordable water to everyone, no matter their zip code, race, or income, which is critical to creating healthy and thriving communities.
- Harness our lands and ocean for climate solutions while increasing equitable access.
We need all of this from Congress to finally be a global leader on climate and drive increased ambition around the world to tackle this crisis. That's why we're asking you to show support for bold international climate action, and encourage leaders — both abroad and here at home — to act boldly for our climate, our environment, and our communities.
