Dear John,
I hope you and your family are doing well. Like many of you, I felt a great sense of relief watching as Derek Chauvin was held accountable for George Floyd’s death. This was a critical step forward and I will continue to push for common-sense policing reforms in Congress and work to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. While I’m at home taking some time with my newborn son, I’ve still been actively voting on important legislation remotely and wanted to give you an update on a legislative issue personal to me.
Last week, I helped to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act which brings us one step closer to closing the gender pay gap and eliminating workplace inequity. Women are still paid on average 82 cents on the dollar for the same work compared with men. Women are the sole or co-breadwinner in half of American families with children. By making employers account for wage differences, we can make our economy more just for all workers. Everyone deserves equal pay for equal work.
The pandemic hit working parents especially hard and I urge the Senate to pass this important legislation so we can level the playing field, advance progress for families and unlock the full potential of women in the workforce.
If you have any questions on the Paycheck Fairness Act, or want to get in touch about the issues important to you and your family, please do not hesitate to send me a message or give us a call in Richardson at (972) 972-7949. It is an honor to serve the hard working folks of North Texas.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
