Friend, Without insurance, toxic fossil fuel projects simply could not be built. Twenty-six insurers around the globe have already placed limits on their fossil fuel coverage due to activist pressure, like when Liberty Mutual restricted its coal insurance and committed to reduce its fossil fuel investments. One major insurer that hasn’t budged yet is AIG. Email AIG executives: Demand that AIG drop insurance coverage of coal, tar sands, and all fossil fuel expansion. AIG is one of the top insurers of coal, oil, and gas in the world, with billions more in fossil fuel investments and no end in sight. Our planet cannot afford even one new coal mine or oil pipeline. But AIG has no plans to stop driving fossil fuel expansion. That’s why we’re launching a campaign to go after AIG ― and we need your help. AIG insures the destructive Trans Mountain pipeline in Canada, despite fierce resistance from Indigenous land defenders and climate activists. Even as other insurers drop the massive tar sands pipeline, AIG refuses to cut ties. Tell AIG executives: No more tar sands pipelines. No more coal mines. No more fossil fuel expansion. The release of more planet-wrecking carbon pollution and the contamination of frontline communities’ water, land, and health are impossible without the backing of insurance corporations like AIG. We need you to tell AIG to stop fueling the climate crisis and violating Indigenous rights. AIG says it’s “helping the world navigate climate challenges,” and yet it’s one of the only major insurers that doesn’t have a single policy to end its support for fossil fuels. We must call AIG out on this hypocrisy. Thanks for taking action, Bret Thompson Public Citizen's Online Team |
