I am delighted to announce that the grand total for SPUC's spring online appeal at 5pm today stands at a fantastic £61,982!
An astonishing £61,982 has been raised over the past ten days to defend the human rights of unborn babies, and other vulnerable people, like little Pippa Knight.
Thank you so much for standing with us in this critical battle.
If we can restore, uphold and protect the right to life, abortion could be ended tomorrow. Your donation could make that possible, just as SPUC donors have made many other marvellous pro-life victories possible in recent years (see below).
If you’ve still not donated, but would like to, it’s not too late.

** Dear Friend and Supporter,
------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to show you what amazing successes can be achieved when good people, like you, support the work of SPUC.
Before I do that, I would like to tell you about the biggest threat facing unborn babies today, and why this appeal is central to combating that threat.
Our opponents know that by stripping our long-established rights of their force in law, there is very little that we can do to stop their depraved agenda.
The three rights they fear most and want to see quashed are:
1. Right to Life
2. Right to Freedom of Assembly
3. Right to Free Speech
And I have to be honest and say, they are making a pretty good fist of it.
Today, all three rights have a very hollow ring to them.
So hollow in fact, they could be better described as “sham rights” and none more so than the right to life.
For instance, if the right to life was restored to its pre-1967 Abortion Act status, the abortion industry would be shut down overnight.
That’s why they will not rest until our fundamental rights carry no weight at all.
Your loyal support will play a key role in stopping them do that, and one day, please God, it will bring about an end to abortion in Britain too.
Each click you make on a donate button, each monthly Direct Debit contribution you pledge, moves us a little closer to that great goal.
Every penny you donate to this fundraiser will go to work immediately to:
1. Replenish SPUC’s funds
Little Pippa Knight's appeal court costs came to £132k is needed to pay little Pippa Knight’s appeal court costs.
Once that money has been raised, and SPUC’s legal budget is back in the black, NEW legal challenges can be mounted to bolster the right to life and other fundamental rights.
2. Defeat the Censorship Zone Amendment
MP Rupa Huq is tabling an amendment to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill that would see free speech “exclusion zones” enforced around abortion clinics all across the UK.
The abortion industry is furious that pro-lifers are losing them customers and want those responsible punished. We plan to stop this from happening.
3. Ban DIY Abortion
Since the first lockdown was imposed, 75,000 home abortions have been sanctioned under the “temporary” COVID-19 emergency measures.
These grotesque abortions are taking place in private homes with NO clinical assessment, ultrasound scan or medical supervision and have resulted in the hospitalisation of many hundreds of women over the past 12 months.
Your help is needed to end this gruesome practice once and for all.
SPUC has been providing a strong voice for unborn babies, and other vulnerable people whose rights are ignored, for over 50 years.
Despite the monumental difference in financial resources between SPUC and our powerful opponents (including the government itself), the Society has always been there to make a public stand, and even pulled off a number of landmark victories:
2001 – SPUC was granted a judicial review to challenge sales of abortion-inducing morning-after pill over the counter at pharmacies.
Though this challenge failed, SPUC’s High Court action led to massive media coverage showing that the morning after pill was not so-called emergency “contraception” but it also worked by inducing an early abortion in the first few days of life.
2010 – Marie Stopes International abortion “adverts” on TV
A huge SPUC grassroots campaign saw the Advertising Standards Authority receive the highest number of complaints for a TV commercial ever. The ads soon STOPPED, and not one has appeared since.
2010 – Children, Schools and Families Bill
If unopposed, this anti-life, anti-family bill would have increased legal pressure on schools, including Catholic and other faith schools, to provide pupils with access to contraception and abortion – without, of course, the consent or knowledge of parents. SPUC’s campaign led to the exclusion of such provisions.
2011 – BPAS “bedroom abortions” plan blocked
Legal arguments submitted by SPUC played a prominent role in the High Court reaching a judgment which derailed BPAS’s plans to give women abortion drugs to administer to themselves.
It would be a further six years before home medical abortions were fully sanctioned (by the Scottish government in 2017).
2014 – Conscientious objection case of pro-life Glasgow midwives goes to the Supreme Court
Though the Court’s ruling went against Mary Doogan and Connie Wood the midwives’ long legal battle – backed entirely by SPUC donors over many long years – succeeded in highlighting in a very public way a very grave injustice against pro-life people of conscience working in the NHS.
2015 – MP Rob Marris’ Assisted Dying Bill was defeated
MPs received thousands of letters from SPUC supporters urging opposition to the bill. Some commentators even say that the strong expression of pro-life feeling among constituents has kept doctor-assisted killing at bay ever since.
Without such strong opposition, hospitals throughout Britain would have experienced far greater pressure from our opponents to offer patients full-blown euthanasia.
Meanwhile, countries like Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, New Zealand – and most recently Spain – have succumbed, resulting in the deaths of thousands of vulnerable people around the world.
2018 – Government rejects calls for a nationwide ban on pro-life vigils at abortion clinics
Requests to send 80,000 SPUC campaign postcards to the then Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, proved pivotal in making this victory happen.
2018 – Judicial review of the Scottish Government’s “home abortion” policy
This legal action ultimately failed, but it delayed the introduction of home medical abortions in Scotland, and in England also, where an estimated 17,000 babies’ lives were saved as a result.
2020 – DIY abortion clause in Domestic Abuse Bill rejected
The abortion industry wanted to hijack this bill and make temporary DIY abortions permanent, post-Covid.
Prior to the DIY abortion clause being withdrawn, a high-impact campaign saw SPUC supporters lobby MPs at Parliament.
2020 – DIY Abortion Reversal Helpline established
SPUC entered into a new, life-saving initiative with a US-based pro-life group which could see as many as 2-in-3 medical abortions “reversed” if caught in time.
SPUC got to be western Europe’s largest pro-life group thanks to the tremendous backing and loyalty it receives from people just like you.
I struggle to find the words to adequately express my gratitude for the generous donations SPUC receives each year to keep our work going.
Your support is vital as we don’t receive a penny in government grants.
Will you help restore the right to life to its former inviolable status so that one day we can end abortion?

Your involvement in this great cause really matters.
A one-off gift of £10, £20, or £50 could make all the difference in the world to someone’s life when placed behind a SPUC campaign to:
1. Ensure help is on hand for women at abortion clinics to keep their babies
2. Protect our human rights in court
3. Outlaw DIY abortion

A donation of just £10 could swing things our way and help SPUC pull off another remarkable David v Goliath victory, like the ones listed above.
With YOUR support, anything is possible.
Thank you again for your great love and commitment to unborn babies.
Yours in defence of life
John Smeaton
Chief Executive
P.S. – Donations sent by ordinary supporters like you are the life-blood of our work.
Nothing gives SPUC’s national team more encouragement than knowing that you are right behind us and backing our work financially with your personal sacrifices.
The amount of the gift isn’t what’s important.
Whatever the amount, every single penny helps SPUC keep applying the pressure, keeps us standing up for the weak and vulnerable, and keeps us holding out until the right to life for ALL is restored to its former standing.
