In this email I will be talking about police brutality, anti-Black racism, and the Derek Chauvin verdict. Please only read if you feel comfortable doing so.

Hello,

This week, a jury in Minneapolis found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of the charges brought against him for the murder of George Floyd.

This verdict delivers some accountability for George Floyd's murder. But George's loved ones still lost a father, a son, a brother, a friend and nothing can bring him back. My heart is with his family.

My deepest hope is that Tuesday was a turning point, but let me be clear that our work isn't over yet. We need to keep speaking out to reform our justice system so that we address inequity and create accountability.

I know this is a difficult time for many of us, so I wanted to share some resources in case anyone reading this needs someone to speak with at this time for extra support:

- Crisis Text Line - Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor
- Visit the Washington State Health Care Authority's website to find the mental health crisis line in your county ([link removed])
- 55 Mental Health Resources for People of Color ([link removed])

It's an honor to serve you,

Derek
