John’s April Briefing from the Liberal Democrats.
On Thursday 6th May, there are elections in every corner of the United
Kingdom.
We want to elect more Liberal Democrats at every level of government, who
will stand up for their communities and help build a fairer, greener and more
caring country.

It is with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Shirley Williams. Her family
and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.
Liberal Democrat friends and family have been sharing their memories of
Shirley in our book of condolence. You can add your name here:

Sovereign Green Wealth Fund
Last month, £9 billion was raised in an auction for the right to build wind
farms off the coast of England.
That’s why we are calling for a Sovereign Green Wealth Fund. We want to
invest the windfall from wind power into green jobs and green investment.

Black Lives Matter
Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd. This is an important
step in fighting for justice, but America's struggle to end racism and police
violence continues. We stand in solidarity with George Floyd's family and
community.
Closer to home, a report published by the Government’s Commission on Race and
Ethnic Disparities left many communities feeling frustrated, ignored and
disempowered. From racial abuse to the Windrush scandal, we demand the
government do more to tackle racial inequality in the UK.

Ending violence against women
The murder of Sarah Everard shocked the nation and forced us to confront the
prevelance of violence against women.
MP Wera Hobhouse emphasised the Liberal Democrats’ commitment to eradicating
male violence directed at women.
