ConservAmerica is proud to welcome Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and John Thune of South Dakota as the new Senate leadership team of the bicameral Roosevelt Conservation Caucus (RCC). Senators Murkowski and Thune will serve as the Senate co-chairs of the RCC for the 117thCongress. They replace Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Cory Gardner of Colorado, who helped establish the caucus in 2018. Senator Graham remains an active member of the caucus. “I’m proud to have been chosen to lead the Senate Roosevelt Conservation Caucus in the 117th Congress alongside my friend and colleague, Senator Thune. As Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I helped secure the enactment of legacy policies, including the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, a sweeping lands package that included more than 120 measures benefiting often-rural communities and public lands across the country. Care of our public lands should be something that brings Americans together,” said Senator Murkowski. “Together, the RCC can help find lasting solutions to our nation’s greatest energy and conservation needs.” “I’m pleased to serve as co-chair of the Roosevelt Conservation Caucus for the 117th Congress,” said Senator Thune. “I look forward to working with Senator Murkowski and members of the caucus to advance policy solutions that address our environmental challenges, help build our economy, and create jobs.” The Roosevelt Conservation Caucus was established at the start of the 116th Congress as a platform for Republicans to promote sensible policies grounded in conservative, market-based principles to national environmental, conservation and clean energy challenges. “Senators Murkowski and Thune bring a wealth of policy and leadership experience to the RCC and we look forward to working with them to advance commonsense solutions to our nation’s environmental and clean energy challenges,” said Jeff Kupfer, ConservAmerica president. As policymakers debate strategies to curb greenhouse gas emissions, reduce plastic waste and conserve our natural inheritance, Republican solutions based on competition and open markets are crucial to ensure federal policies are achievable, durable and consistent with strong economic growth. Members of the caucus already demonstrated last year that targeted, responsible legislation can pass with bipartisan support when Congress follows the traditional committee process and allows stakeholders a meaningful role. This year, the caucus looks forward to building on the momentum from last year that resulted in the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, The Energy Act of 2020, and Save Our Seas 2.0. |
