It's not too late to match your gift for children in Yemen and families in other crisis zones.
John,
As we enter the second week of the holy month of Ramadan, those of us fasting are finally getting into the swing of things, especially abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours. For so many families in Yemen though, these pangs of hunger continue day-in and day-out — throughout the year.
When I am feeling tired or exhausted after a fast, I can't help but think of millions of families around the world that go without sufficient food, every day.
John, I've been wanting to tell you about a mother whose child suffered from malnutrition and recovered with the help of people like you.
My team was introduced to Aziah Mansur Qasim and her seven children in Al-Sahdah camp in Yemen. The family was forced to flee their home and abandon the shop that supported them after the conflict came to their front door.
Safe from artillery fire but far from home, life took another unexpected and devastating turn for Aziah and her family: Her husband left Aziah to take care of her seven children by herself in a country with skyrocketing food prices and few opportunities for income.
One of her children, Abdulrahman, became malnourished and needed urgent medical care. "He was very weak and unable to walk or even sit," Aziah says. She was terrified that her son would not survive.
"When the [IRC] medical team came, thank God we felt safe, and my kids got medicine and started getting better. Not only me and my kids, but everyone."
All gifts, up to $100,000, will be matched by a generous donor until May 12, 2021 at midnight. Your donation will be used where it is needed most. Please note that the IRC is unable to accept Zakat donations.
