Black and brown people have been on the front lines of the climate crisis—suffering the most from polluted air to natural disasters to cancer mortality. The government has long allowed communities of color to be “sacrifice zones” for environmental enforcement and zoning.

Environmental racism is real. We should not have “sacrifice zones” in the United States.

Demand Congress pass legislation to invest in clean housing, in public transportation, and in protecting Black and brown communities from the ravages of environmental degradation. Add your name!

In 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency found that people of color are much more likely to live near industrial polluters and breathe polluted air.¹

A combination of factors—including higher pollutants in the air and water, a lack of access to health care, and disproportionate poverty—mean that Black and brown people are both more likely to be exposed to environmental disasters and more likely to die in them.

We can and must change this, immediately.

President Biden has signed an executive order creating a council to address environmental racism. While this is a significant step forward, it is far from enough.

We need to end the practice of “sacrifice zones” and ensure a safe and clean environment for everyone. SIGN NOW: Congress must enact legislation to end environmental “sacrifice zones” once and for all!

The inequality gap will continue to grow if we don’t tackle the climate crisis—with addressing environmental racism at the core of our strategy.
