96 Fellow Conservative,
Recent events across the country have spurred some
serious conversations about law enforcement in America. It’s
unfortunately obvious that there are gaps in our public safety, but
there ARE solutions.
Defunding the police is not an option.
As the
mayor of San Diego, I put commonsense measures in place to make sure
that our community's police officers had the tools and resources they
needed to do their jobs and keep San Diegans safe.
I directed the use
of body cameras to increase trust and accountability, and banned the use
of the carotid restraint. We were on the forefront of implementing these
measures, and now they’re in widespread use. Using the carotid restraint
is now illegal in California.
We made salaries competitive to retain
good officers, and introduced policies to ensure that our men and women
in uniform are all following procedures under strict penalty.
There
is still a lot of work to do, but defunding the police is not the
answer. It’s a failed experiment that has only hurt the communities who
have attempted it.
We need to work to build trust — not tear it down.
My record in San Diego speaks for itself. I have the experience
needed to bring effective and responsible law enforcement to the whole
state. I just need your help to get to the Governor’s Office.
Thanks
for your support,
Kevin Faulconer
P.S. If you agree that defunding
the police is a bad idea that hurts communities, please
