Saving Steel:
The One Nation Plan For More Steel and Manufacturing Jobs in the Hunter
[link removed]
Steel making is essential for the future of manufacturing and mining jobs in the Hunter. If we donā€™t make steel thereā€™s not much else we can make as a NSW economy.

Yet this industry is under pressure and is losing its competitive strengths in NSW due to high electricity prices, unreliable green energy, the problems with Gupta Steel and climate change activists attacking coking coal.

The problems with steel are adding to the deindustrialisation of NSW, overseen by the Berejiklian Government and its green allies in the Labor Party and Greens.

This is why we have released our One Nation Plan for Saving Steel in NSW.

On the day of the planā€™s launch, NSW One Nation Leader Mark Latham, Rod Roberts MLC and our Upper Hunter candidate Dale McNamara visited the Muswellbrook Steel Supplies (MSS) business, which employs 21 people, supplying steel for mining, rural, construction and manufacturing in the regional economy.

ā€œThis business is a great example of the integrated nature of the steel making industry in NSW and the importance of both thermal and coking coal miningā€, Mr Latham said.

ā€œMSS sources steel from many places, with a large BlueScope account (which relies on high-quality coking coal in the Illawarra) and on-sells to several industries, including mines in the Hunter producing thermal coal.ā€

ā€œThe integrated supply chains between coal mining, steel making and other manufacturing are huge, involving a virtuous circle of coking and thermal coal."

ā€œA stronger, more competitive steel industry is essential for manufacturing and mining jobs in the Upper Hunter.ā€

If elected on 22 May Dale McNamara will use his balance of power in the lower house to defend coal jobs and implement our Saving Steel Plan.

ā€œIā€™m fighting for mining and manufacturing to have a future in the Upper Hunter and give our young people a good future, with the dignity of work and the income security of good jobsā€, Mr McNamara said.

The Saving Steel Plan is based on the following 7 changes to Government policy:

1. Declaring steel an essential industry, for job creation but also national security given growing uncertainty in the Asia-Pacific and the role of China.

2. A NSW Government guarantee of steelmakers being able to access their essential coking coal resource, including the immediate approval of the Dendrobium mine extension (vital for the future of BlueScope Steel).

3. Abolition of the anti-coal NSW Independent Planning Commission - good news for coking and thermal coal production.

4. Fast-tracking mining and manufacturing development applications in NSW, with no process to take more than a year. This is badly needed for investment certainty.

5. The introduction of special NSW payroll tax concessions for businesses at various stages of the steel production and supply chain.

6. Abandoning Matt Keanā€™s high-risk 100% renewable electricity ā€˜roadmapā€™, replacing it with a policy of competitive and technological neutrality. This would deliver lower electricity prices and greater energy security. At the moment, NSW steelmakers have twice the power costs as their USA counterparts.

7. Urging the Federal Government to introduce more effective anti-dumping laws for steel imports, stopping price manipulation by foreign competitors.

Scott Morrisonā€™s Arrogance!

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has labelled Scott Morrison's appointment of Paul Graham as the new group chief executive and managing director of Australia Post, one day ahead of a Senate Inquiry into the nations postal service, as "unmistakable contempt of the process",

The inquiry was sparked by the One Nation Senator following contradicting evidence provided by chairman Lucio Di Bartolomeo in relation to the alleged resignation of Christine Holgate.

ā€œThe announcement of a new Australia Post chief executive and managing director today shows absolute arrogance on behalf of the Prime Minister and two of his most senior Ministers,ā€ Senator Hanson said.

ā€œIt demonstrates unmistakable contempt of the process and this is proving typical of the Prime Ministers leadership style.ā€

ā€œScott Morrison was attempting to deliberately destabilise witnesses ahead of the Senate inquiry.ā€

The Canberra hearing heard from witnesses including Christine Holgate who denies formally offering her resignation from Australia Post.

The inquiry also offered members of the Environment and Communications Reference Committee to question Ms Holgate over the Morrison Cabinet commissioned Boston Consulting Groups secret review into the direction of Australia Post.

ā€œI am aware that the report encourages the sell off of parcels, cuts to services, and the loss of 8,000 Australia Post jobs,ā€ Senator Hanson said.

ā€œChristine Holgate vehemently opposed carving up Australia Post and the Morrison Government wanted her out of their way.ā€

ā€œThis is a woman who saved Australia Post, particularly those family licensed post offices in rural and regional parts of our country by modernising and innovating the services provided by the Commonwealth owned business.ā€

ā€œThe Prime Minister hasnā€™t said boo about $77.5 million in bonuses paid by the NBN Co, yet heā€™s thrown Christine Holgate under a bus for the purchase of $20,000 worth of watches given as bonuses following a boost of $220 million to Australia Postā€™s bottom line."

ā€œAs far as Iā€™m concerned, the Prime Minister is nothing but an arrogant bully who has disregarded the efforts of the Senate to shine a light on the truth behind the Australia Post saga."
