| I sometimes wonder if government officials who champion abortion are blinded to the truth — or just knowingly embrace an indefensible position for the sake of ideological partisanship.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken comes to mind. He recently declared, "Standing up for human rights everywhere is in America's interests."
I would agree — it's never right to embrace a wrong and defending the dignity of each person is a noble ideal. The United States may not be the world's police force, but America has historically stood up for those in need, something we can all be proud of.
Yet during the same speech, Mr. Blinken also called abortion a "human right" — a stunning declaration given the fact pre-born babies are human.
"There is no hierarchy that makes some rights more important than others," he added.
I was reminded of my friend and former colleague, Susie Ripley. During my tenure as vice president of Focus on the Family's international division over 20 years ago, I asked Susie to attend the Beijing Women's Conference on behalf of the ministry.
During one of the sessions related to women's rights, Susie was given the opportunity to ask a question. She raised the issue of females in the womb and asked if both women had rights.
Nobody could — or would — answer her question.
