Dear John,
The last 24 hours have been quite a whirlwind! Yesterday, hundreds of supporters joined us for our 9th annual luncheon. Together, we raised $923,000 in support of gun violence prevention. Donations are still coming in and we are hopeful that when all is said and done, we will meet our $1 million goal.

Shortly after our event concluded, Derek Chauvin was convicted of murdering George Floyd. This verdict is welcome relief for a country bracing for the worst, but it alone is not justice. It does not bring George Floyd back. It does not undo the pain his loved ones suffered nor the trauma our country endured. It does not mean the work is done. But it proves that progress is possible.
More good news followed. The Washington legislature passed two more of our priority gun violence prevention policies: SB 5038 and SB 5066. The former rejects armed intimidation by limiting open carry at the state capitol and public demonstrations and the latter requires officers to intervene if they see a fellow officer using excessive force. The success of these bills—and the eight others we’ve helped pass this session—would not be possible without your support.
I’m so grateful to everyone who helped make our luncheon a success from our donors to our table captains to our speakers. Thank you all so much and I hope to see you in-person at our luncheon next year!
With gratitude,
Renee Hopkins
