Dear John,
Breaking news! The House just voted to pass the NO BAN Act, the bill that would prevent any future iteration of Trump's hateful Muslim ban from ever harming our communities again.
Since Trump imposed the Muslim ban four years ago, NIAC Action has worked with impacted community and allied organizations across the nation to fight this discriminatory policy that targeted Iranian nationals and impacted countless members of our community. Thankfully, President Biden upheld his commitment to rescind the ban on Day One of his presidency, but the threat of a future administration imposing a similar ban remains. And while we welcome today’s vote, this is just the first step in preventing future bans once and for all.
And there is even more good news! Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s Access to Counsel Act, which would ensure U.S. nationals and those with valid visas have access to a lawyer at a U.S. port of entry, is also expected to pass imminently. This bill is a bold response not only to the Muslim ban, but also to the outrageous treatment of Iranian Americans and Iranian nationals at the U.S.-Canadian border last year.
Sadly, countless families are still affected by the Trump administration’s original sin, including Diversity Visa Lottery winners who are still being denied their visas. We must call on the Biden Administration to see his campaign promise all the way through and provide real justice to those impacted by the ban.
Take action! Urge President Biden and Vice President Harris to allow entry to families denied by Trump’s Muslim Ban>>
With your support, John, I know we can right the wrongs of Trump's ban once and for all.
In solidarity,
Donna Farvard
