I’m Isabel Gonzalez-Webster, and I’m proud to represent an organization named Worcester Interfaith. We are a part of the Democracy HUBS network here in Massachusetts. Joe Kennedy asked me to connect with you to recap some of what we discussed at his virtual event last week.
I live in Worcester, where we have often struggled to get the attention and investment we need in local community organizing – and where we live every day with the consequences of unequal political representation.
The Democracy HUBS are helping change that. Thanks to them, Worcester Interfaith was able to hire cultural brokers to connect with citizens in over twelve languages. These cultural brokers are building a network of community, ethnic, faith and cultural organizations that are trusted institutions in our community. We were able to empower community members to become trusted and effective messengers to talk to the greater community about the census and safe elections, as well as early and mail in voting.
I explained at Groundwork’s event last week that it’s contributions like yours that power these efforts.
Democracy HUBS's goal of raising another $25,000 wasn’t pulled from thin air. It's intentional and in coordination with the anchor organizations like mine and the needs we are communicating upwards. I’m personally asking you to contribute what you can so we can continue to make an impact. [[link removed]]
DONATE [[link removed]]
Right now, Worcester Interfaith is door knocking, phone banking, tabling at ethnic markets, food pantries, housing authorities and, public parks and talking to people at local businesses, getting them scheduled to get vaccines. And at the same time, talking to them about the importance of being involved in community issues.
We’re training our organizers to have effective one-on-ones and to host community events. We’re building resources in our community and doing the work and identifying goals together, to be able to build political power, and a strong voting block of people of color and immigrants in this community.
But none of this work will be possible without the resources. Can we count on you to donate now? [[link removed]]
Thanks,
Isabel
Groundwork Project was founded by Joe Kennedy III to support community organizers, advocates, and activists nationwide who are working year-round to build a just, free, and equitable future for all. For decades, the Democratic Party has under-resourced, under-valued, and under-recognized the importance of local political infrastructure and year-round grassroots organizing. This needs to change.
We're directing resources, attention, and support to the local advocates and state-based organizations doing the deep, long-term organizing that Democrats need to build a more diverse party, expand its base, win elections, and deliver progressive policy reforms. Contribute now. [[link removed]]
