John,
Issue One’s latest research shows something absolutely staggering about our politics.
We found that just 12 megadonors — at least eight of whom are billionaires — contributed a combined $3.4 BILLION to federal candidates and political groups between 2009 and 2020. That accounts for $1 of every $13 in elections.
Yes, you read that right. This finding highlights something we’ve all known: Wealthy individuals wield an outsized influence on our politics. It’s past time for action to be taken that reels in the influence of big money in our political system.
Add your name to tell Congress to take action and curb the corrosive influence of big money in our politics!
In response to our new report, Issue One Founder and CEO Nick Penniman said: “Our government can’t be responsive to all Americans if our elected officials are beholden to the elite donor class.”
And he’s right. This research is yet another demonstration that our political system is broken. We need to change the rules of the political fundraising game to give small donors a bigger voice and help build a democracy that works for all Americans.
Tell Congress to take action NOW and reel in the outsized influence of big money in our politics.
Thanks for your support,
Michael Beckel Research Director, Issue One
