John,
As Congress and the Biden administration develop plans to address climate change, big energy corporations and their enablers are desperately selling distractions intended to protect their bottom line and derail efforts to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
Big Oil & Gas is pushing dangerous climate schemes to confuse policymakers and the public. And Big Ag is trying to get in on the action too. But we're onto them.
One of these climate schemes is the deceptively named Growing Climate Solutions Act of 2021. This proposed legislation would allow polluters to continue to pump out greenhouse gases unchecked and would stall efforts to build a healthy, sustainable, and resilient food system.
Tell Congress: We need real policies that will keep fossil fuels in the ground in order to address the climate crisis. Don’t fall for climate schemes.

The Growing Climate Solutions Act promotes a simple scam: waste taxpayer dollars to build carbon markets and cap-and-trade programs that allow corporations to continue to pollute with impunity. It would require the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help Big Ag corporations generate carbon credits and create a “one-stop shop” to force farmers into third-party carbon markets. This complicated scheme would create a system ripe for fraud — but that’s the whole point.
Carbon offsets might sound good, but they mean business as usual for polluters.
Food & Water Watch has helped lead a large coalition of farmers, front-line communities, people of faith, businesses, and consumers to take a strong stand against this climate scam. We’re fighting for policies that will support sustainable farming and a transition off fossil fuels. But we need YOU to keep the pressure on politicians in Washington.

Not all climate "solutions" tackle the climate crisis. The oil and gas and agriculture industries want to protect their profits at any cost. That often involves elaborate pay-to-pollute schemes like cap-and-trade, as well as other scams like carbon capture and "renewable" biogas.
These dirty industries are on the ropes and they know it. That’s why they're putting so much effort into promoting these climate scams. We have to make sure the public and our elected officials know what they’re really up to.
With enough public pressure, we can convince Congress to keep fossil fuels in the ground and push for climate policies that will actually address the climate crisis, not let Big Oil & Gas and Big Ag continue with their corporate pollution schemes. Send your message to Congress: Don’t fall for climate scams.
