Friends,
Yesterday's rightful conviction of Derek Chauvin brought all of us immense relief. But I know that accountability for Derek Chauvin is no substitute for George Floyd's life.
This pain is bigger than one trial can heal.
We can't bring back the countless Black Americans who have died, but we have a moral imperative to act. For George Floyd, Daunte Wright, Elijah McClain, Breonna Taylor, and so many others, we have to do better and take action.
It is long past time to reform the system that causes Americans to live in fear simply because of the color of their skin. That's why I voted in favor of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act last month, and it's why I will continue working to tackle the systemic racism that is embedded in our criminal justice system.
The trial is over, but our work is only beginning.
Thank you,
Jason
