Hello Friend,

The NC Values' sister organization, the Institute for Faith and Family, has filed an amicus brief for one of the most important religious liberty Supreme Court cases of our lifetime.

The brief was filed in support of Harris Funeral Homes urging the U.S. Supreme Court
to reverse the Sixth and Second Circuit decisions and affirm the Eleventh Circuit. Harris Funeral Homes is a 5th generation family business that has been serving grieving families for over 100 years. Like most businesses, it maintains professional codes of dress and conduct. After one of their biologically male employees which served as the face of the funeral home underwent "gender transition" and began showing up to grieving families in womens clothing, the business had no choice but to consider the interests of their female employees and the serviced grieving families by terminating the individual's employment on the grounds it violated their business dress codes.

In turn, the EEOC (a federal agency) sued to redefine the word "sex" in federal law to mean "gender identity."

At the the heart of the case is deciding whether or not Americans should be able to rely on what the law says. If judges are allowed to uphold rulings against Harris Funeral Homes, the resulting redefinition of "sex" to mean "gender identity" will create chaos and be unfair to women and girls.

No business owner should be punished for relying on existing laws. Redefining "sex" to mean "gender identity" will create a swamp of legal confusion and unfair situations for women and girls, such as being able to fairly compete in women's sports.

Here is one of the many great arguments and quotes from our brief:

"Male and female are both human beings, but they are not interchangeable in every respect. When the line is blurred, there is no assurance that women will have equal opportunities vis-a-vis men—as Price Waterhouse so aptly illustrates—or men vis-à-vis women. Oncale supports this purpose by objectively considering 'reasonably comparable evils' consistent with the statutory language." (Click here to read the entire brief)

An amicus brief is a document that is filed in a court by someone who is not directly related to the case under consideration. The additional information found in an amicus brief can be useful for the judge evaluating the case, and it becomes part of the official case record.

While the Institute for Faith & Family filed the Amicus Brief, the NC Values Coalition is on the front lines defending your freedom to follow existing law regarding clear distinctions between women and men in the public square. Take for instance, our work in public schools across North Carolina to keep left-wing, progressive groups from using public schools as centers to indoctrinate our children with gender-bending, transgender affirmation. And our work to keep men from invading the private spaces women should have the freedom to enjoy—like bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing facilities. And our efforts to make sure high school girls in a North Carolina have a level playing field, where they aren’t forced to compete in athletics against boys. Our work is complemented by the work done by the Institute for Faith & Family in representing before the US Supreme Court the common-sense view that men are men and women are women—created lovingly and beautifully by God our Creator—and no Court or government agency or school can redefine sex to confuse the two.

Friend, would you please consider making a monthly or one-time donation of $5, $10, $25, $50, $75, or $100 towards the work the NC Values Coalition does fighting for religious liberty issues like this one in the public square?
